I felt it a few weeks ago, that familiar snap of cold in the air that says that it’s time for fall! One of the perks of living in New England is getting a front row seat to the fall foliage show! You have seriously not experienced fall until you’ve experienced it in New England. The most wonderful and vibrant colors come out and paint Maine up and down. It’s as if to say, “Enjoy it now! The horrible dead of winter is coming!”
I have always loved fall, even when I wasn’t living in New England. In fact, when I was planning a wedding as a small child, I wanted a fall wedding. Ever see that Robin Hood movie, with Kevin Costner? The end of that movie has this gorgeous fall wedding scene in the woods, yeah, I wanted that. If you live in New England though, fall weddings can be a double-edged sword, it can be horrible and cold in the height of leaf season. So, when faced with the choice, we wanted the outdoor party instead of being indoors with a fall theme.
I still have a special place in my heart for fall weddings though, so I thought I would devote a post to pay homage to a wedding that will never be for me. But first, some more gorgeous New England leaves!
First thing’s first, I think everyone has seen these photos…I’ve at least seen it multiple times on Pinterest, but if you haven’t seen it, I promise, you will fall in love!
This is an AWESOME styled shoot, but I’m surprised I haven’t seen more plaid brides! This has got to be the most ingenious, and adorable idea I have ever seen. It almost made me drop the whole summer wedding idea when I saw it. You can see the whole styled shoot here! I want to see more plaid brides in the future! I need to live vicariously through you guys!
The fall color palette is another one of my favorites. After all, nothing says warm and inviting like fall colors! Try decorating the ceremony with some of the flowers still in bloom around fall time, like sunflowers! You can add a bit of rustic with some wheat, which will also help round everything out.
A great fall DIY from (who else) Martha Stewart! But don’t worry, this seems super simple and the end product is pretty adorable! And of course Martha brings us a great fall wedding favor as well, and one of my favorite tasty fall treats!
And because I always have a sweet tooth, think of the fall dessert!
So you have your marching orders! Plan a fall wedding, and send me ALL the pics! Oh, and make sure you get a photo like this:
